WHAT’S ON THE PLATE: SNACKS
Snacks = mini-meals. Like meals, snacks should be nutritionally dense and include a variety of foods.
Snack serving = ½ toddler serving sizes
Do offer snacks but limit snacks to no more than 3 per day
If possible offer at each meal and in ½ portions at each snack
Serve with milk or water
1 protein
1 carb
1 fat source if the protein is lean
1 vegetable or 1 fruit
TODDLER SNACK
3 slices ripe pear
4 tbsp whole milk cottage cheese
¼ c. dry whole-grain cereal
TODDLER SNACK
1-2 whole-grain crackers
1-2 tbsp cheese bites
1-2 tbsp turkey bites
1-2 slices/pieces fresh fruit
TODDLER SNACK
3-4 cucumber slices
1 tbsp hummus
2 triangles whole wheat pita bread
TODDLER SNACK
2 tbsp cooked chicken, diced or thin strips
2 ripe avocado slices
2 tbsp diced tomatoes
¼ whole-grain tortilla
TODDLER SNACK
¼ C. whole milk Greek yogurt
2 tbsp berries
¼ slice whole-wheat toast
with almond butter
TODDLER SNACK
½ ounce of tofu squares
2 tablespoons of brown rice
2 tablespoons of sauteed broccoli and carrots
And a dab of low salt soy sauce
